South West (BSMA) - 21/2/10 - Honiton

South West Motocross Club started its 2010 club championships with a cracking event at the picturesque Honiton venue.
The 120 riders practised and raced on the new track laid out over the natural rugged grassy hillside circuit.
First to race were the automatics . Most of them slipped and slided on the fresh grass in practise, but had another thing coming when they came out of the gate in race 1 ! The grass had been easy in comparison to the now completely cut up hairpin bends and adverse camber climbs. Louis Kessell obviously found it to his liking with 3 wins!He was followed home by Archie Bees and Harvey James in each race.Joseph Ackerlay also finished all his races whilst other unlucky ones didn’t.
Junior rider Aiden Williams fooled everyone by wearing a novice bib whilst riding like a pro,he was rarely challenged from the start. Henry Bees ,Callum Jago and Todd Sawyer were only seperated by 4 points for the runner up positions, Dan Roberts and Suzuki mounted Jordan Allen rounded out the top 6.
Cornish Racer Dean Symons once again won all the Small Wheel races with ease, leaving Dan Mundell and Brendon Cooper to battle it out for 2nd overall equal on points. Daniel Furse pipped four stroke rider Harry Davey to 4th overall with a great second race. Megan Butler showed the rest of the boys the way home in 6th.
Visiting Big Wheel victor Rob Hollyoaks put on a demonstration of bike control during the day, never in danger of being beaten in any of the races .Local boy Connor Palmer showed he has put behind him the injuries that sidelined him for most of last season by finishing 2nd despite a poor last race. Jumping into that vacated 2nd place in race 3 raised Cole Baker Edwards into the top three .The CRF monted trio of Jason Brooke, Jamie Buckingham and George Burrows were separated by just 1 point each to fill the remaining top 6 positions.
The Regular Senior riders had their work cut out with all the new boys snapping at their heels for top honours. Aaron Jenkins eventually got into his groove winning the last 2 races but didn’t have it all his own way, Simon Gill, Rocky Lethaby and Jack Stevens all doing the best to win races, fast and furious with no let up until the flag. Harry Lawrence and Craig Furse were next.
Now with open bikes included the Amx group attracts all type of riders, bikes and ages, but it was the experience of Richard Marsh that took the overall without winning a race !First race winner Nick Lee couldn’t regain his form and ended up 3rd behind consistent Aaron Austin. Last years champion Garath Bunby 4th ,with double race victor Daniel Wyatt 5th after a dreadful first race. Unlucky Greg Pascoe ran out of luck and fuel in race 1,but finished 4th in both final races .Marcus Denham rounded out the top 6.
With rain starting to fall and the light fading the club enlisted the help of a tractor and 4x4 to ensure everyone got away home with minimum fuss.
The next club championship and BSMA qualifier is at a new venue for the club.

East Kent (BSMA) 14/2/10 Newnham
With the possibility of wintry showers, East Kent SSC was still running with everyone glad to be at racing for the final round of the Winter Championship. But tension started to build as the Seniors were the first to the line. Harrison Utting got the holeshot as well as the first win; Dave Taylor, who came in second, had a strong continuous battle all the way to the chequered flag. Lewis Dowsett and Kieran Clarke put in good efforts to try to gain the lead, but unfortunately they couldn't, so it ended up Harrison first overall (his first ever win and he took all 3 motos – well done Harrison), Dave Taylor taking second and Lewis Dowsett had to settle for third – not bad for his first race in the Seniors.
The next group to the line was the AMX, with Arron Jenner taking all three holeshots and wins and from the first corner to the chequered flag the top three were the ones to watch. Good battles between Matt Hornby and Graham Heasman in the first and third races, but Rowan Hill was up there with them in the second race. But the final result was Arron in first place, Graham second and Rowan riding consistently to take third.
Next off were the BW85s. Daniel Packman got the first two holeshots but Jack Eldridge got the third and won all three races even though Daniel Guy, Tony Stubberfield, Daniel Packman and John Waghorne all tried to catch him. Jack was in a class of his own!! Jack Alwani rode three strong consistent races to take third overall.
After the BW85s came the SW85s. Callum Heasman had a great win in the first race but Mitchell Lewis pushed all the way and took the wins in the second and third motos and so the overall win. In all three races Charlie Earley earned himself third with some good battles all day.
Next out were the Juniors. After a shaky start up the hill, Tom Lockhart was out on his own from start to finish followed by Luke Horley and Tom Borrett. Some nice racing and determination and it ended up Tom Lockhart first (his first overall win), Luke second (his best ever result) and Tom Borrett third. The racing was good to watch in the last race as Oliver Rippon, Ashley Surridge and Harry Arnold battled all the way round!
The last group to race were the Autos. They all tried their best and all managed to get round a shortened track. Jack Nixon took all three wins with Charlie Burt and Jake Sinden following closely behind. A good effort by all the riders and they showed true determination.
Well done it was a great day’s racing and even the sun came out for us. Our thanks got to the medics, committee and all who marshalled.
Don’t forget the first round of the summer championship and BSMA qualifier is on 28th February at Newnham. Book in early!!

Portsmouth Motocross Club (BSMA) - Round 1 Summer Series
West Meon – 7th February 2010

Finally, after a drought of no racing since October, Portsmouth Motocross Club held the first round of their Summer Championship at West Meon recently. The Club welcomed a brilliant turnout of old and new members to the popular circuit, which although had been drenched with rain was perfect to ride, albeit a bit muddy!
The Inter 85 class was looking very healthy for the start of the new season, with a number of Junior riders upgrading into the group. But the familiar name of Josh Coleman stood out once again at the front of the pack, three straight wins awarding him the overall victory. David Keet was gunning for a victory, keeping an eye on the leader throughout the races, but consistency was the order of the day and he finished in third in all motos to finish in second overall. Jake Deacon had amazingly quick starts, an unfortunate mistake in the opening race denied him a straight set of second places, but two seconds in the closing motos awarded him third overall.
Visiting rider Dean Symons made the long journey to West Meon and made a huge impression on the field, starting the day off as runner up in race one, adding a fifth and fourth to finish the day in fourth overall. Henry Siddiqui was a powerhouse around the track after his success at recent meetings and kept his sights on a victory throughout the meeting. Two fourths and fifth awarded him fifth overall. After a long absence, Jamie Cox rejoined Portsmouth and stormed straight into the top six. A sixth in race two was his best result of the day and awarded him valuable points to snatch sixth overall away from Charlie Robinson.
The Juniors were next to the start line, with a few upgraded Autos dominating the front of the pack. Liam Jones was unable to grab a win for himself, but still secured the overall victory, two seconds and a third awarding him the win. Olivier Cook was set for a straight set of wins, but a crash in the opening moto denied his chance for glory, but still passed the chequered flag as winner in the final two races to finish in second overall. A brilliant win in only his second Junior meeting put the biggest smile on Jake Parker’s face, as well as his friends and family, a great way to start his day. Battling hard at the front awarded a second in the second but a huge crash in the final moto denied him a higher placing, but he still managed to finish in third overall.
A valuable new member came in the form of Oliver Rippon who progressively moved up the leaderboard throughout the day. Starting off in fifth position in the opening moto, he ended the day on a high in third place, to finish up in fourth overall. After such a successful season in the Autos, George Stock was on fine form in his opening round in the Junior class. An amazing third in race one set him up for a great overall result, and with a fifth and a fourth he ended the day in fifth overall. Ben Richards was flying for the start of his 2010 season, a brilliant fourth in the opening moto a sign of things to come for the rest of the year. A fifth in the final moto ensured he would finish in sixth overall.
The VMX/AMX Novice class certainly put on a good show of speed and agility as they took to the track. A few new faces appeared at the front of the pack, with Tony Hale reigning supreme, pulling away from the pursuing pack with ease. Two wins awarded him the overall victory. But he didn’t have it all his own way as Shaun Hayles took the lead in the final moto, securing the win to add to his two second places to take second overall. Another “newcomer” Mark Dunning was hot on the heels of the front two to finish in third overall, two thirds and a fourth his results for the day.
On his return to the club, Jamie Winbourne carried on where he left off, remaining at the front of the pack to chase down the leading trio, sliding into third position in the final moto to secure fourth overall. Brilliant starts bode well for Doug Carrier, a brilliant holeshot in race one ensuring high finishes were on the cards. A trio of sixth places rewarded his hard work with fifth overall. The new boys were dominating the class as Matthew Lambert took sixth overall, his last race his best placing of the day, a great fifth to end his day on a high.
The roar from the AMX class was deafening as they sped up the start straight, all riders vying for the lead. With Jackson Evans taking the first race win, Dan Latham pushed hard in the remaining races to get into the lead and did so to dominate both races from start to finish, and became the overall winner on the day. Tom Moore was hot on the heels of the leading duo, but stayed consistently in third place to bag second overall. Shaun Kerley was flying in the final moto, edging closer to Latham throughout the race to net a second place, and finished in third overall.
Dan Strudwick definitely “liked” the West Meon conditions as he romped home in fourth overall, remaining in the top ten throughout the meeting, with a seventh in the final moto his best result on the day. After narrowly missing out on a higher position on his last visit, Matt Hornby was back with a vengeance and grabbed fifth overall away from his rivals, helped by a brilliant sixth in the last race. Lee Wharton enjoyed the start of the new season after a long absence, remaining in the top ten throughout the day, a brilliant seventh in race two his highest placing on the day, helping him move into sixth overall.
The Senior class was the largest group of the day, and provided some enthralling action throughout the field. Rob Muscat was unbeatable though and at a frightening pace bagged three race wins to be the overall winner on the day. Daniel Maxey rode a perfect set of races, trying to catch Muscat all the way, but settled for second in all three motos to take home second overall. A battle pursued for third overall between a group of riders, but Elliot Reeves had luck on his side to remain consistent in fourth place throughout the day, and snatched third overall away from his rivals.
George Clarke was hard on the pace as he battled his way into the top six, but a puncture in the final moto denied him a higher placing. An excellent third placing in the second moto ensured a top six finish and ended the day fourth overall. Battling throughout the meeting with Clarke was Chae Jenkinson, who looked in full control in all motos and improved his positions in each race, ending the day in fifth place to take away fifth overall. Battling through the pain after a horrendous accident in November, Jordan Carrier wasn’t at his best but he didn’t show any signs of injury during the day, keeping well within the top ten, a brilliant fifth in the second race his best position of the day, and he finished in sixth overall.
In his first outing in the Inter Open class, Jordan Bachelor carried on where he left off in the smaller wheeled 85 group, winning in fine style in all three motos to secure the overall victory. An inspiring ride from Harvey Huckstepp saw him secure second overall, chasing down the leader in all races to finish in second place in all three motos. Spencer Watts rode the meeting of his life, keeping on the power throughout the day to secure three third places, netting third overall, a brilliant result for him.
Another newbie to show his face in the bigger wheeled class was Josh Barton and made an immediate impact on the group. Two fourths and a fifth ensured a top placing, and he romped home in fourth overall. Sam Baggott was another rider to watch in his upgraded class, battling hard to pass Barton throughout the meeting, settling for fifth, sixth and sixth to come home in fifth overall. A brilliant start to the season for Reece Stock who had so many set-backs in the 2009 season. But putting all that behind him, he pushed hard to stay in contention for a high position, two sevenths and an eighth awarded him sixth overall.
A handful of Auto riders waded their way through the thick mud but put on a great show for the watching crowd. Xavier Cook snatched all three victories in fine style to take home the overall win. Liam Brosnan had great starts, holeshotting the first moto, and followed home the leader in all races to finish up in second overall. Cain Marsh has improved immensely and proved this on the track to finish in third in all three motos to secure third overall.
Constant encouragement from the sidelines pushed Ben Tumber on to keep his riding consistent, and three fourths awarded him fourth overall. Brilliant starts once again ensured Jamie Turner was pushing hard at the front of the pack, holeshotting races with ease, but unable to maintain the lead he slipped back, but still ensured a high placing, and three fifth places rewarded him with fifth overall. Newcomer Kurt Hemmings stamped his mark on the field from day one and instantly appeared in the top six, two sixth places rewarding him with sixth overall on his debut.

The BSMA Supports Local Youths at Culham Park.

The BSMA were very proud to have supported this event witnessing
the fantastic achievement of Neil Irwin, he provided a platform with the land and led a group of young people, from the nearby village of Berinsfield. The Young people prepared the track prior to the event, advertised the activities and ran parts of the event on the day. A huge achievement, for a group of young people, with a great interest in Motorsport.

The day included five groups of organised motocross practice in which over 100 riders participated. The mini-bike practice was supported by almost 50 riders. There was also a 4x4 circuit which and demonstrations of the new, environmentally friendly Quantya electric dirt bike.

Riders such as Tom Watts, Phil Mercer and Kristian Whatley supported the event and all enjoyed a great days riding. Many People from local villages, parish councilors the local police and many young people had a very enjoyable day at an exciting track.

Look out for details of special events such as these in the future on www.culhampark.co.uk and www.bsmamx.co.uk
CORSHAM MOTO CROSS CLUB - Yarley - 14TH FEB 2010

Fantastic, brilliant and awesome describe Corsham’s winter warm up at the totally revamped Yarley circuit on 14th February. Corsham certainly appears to be the club to be with this year and a good line up in all groups and the return of ‘the Yarley Hill’ gave the spectators a good days entertainment.

The Open class were first to try the new layout, with Matthew Thomas out in front in race 1, Danny Iles and Jack Phelps made up the top 3. After an unfortunate tumble in race 1, Will Payne was back on form to take the win in race’s 2 and 3. Jamie Cooper rode well along with Danny Richards.

Darren Banwell and Danny Smith were way out in front in all 3 AMX races, Aaron Shirley and Steve Stutt stayed closed with Mitch Brooks having a consistent 3 fifth places. Dan Cox had his first ride in the AMX this weekend and looked comfortable amongst this very competitive group.

All groups this weekend saw the return of many former Corsham members coming back to the club and the Seniors was no exception. Liam Wright had a brilliant day going home with 3 wins. Jack Timms gave Liam some strong competition and can be proud, of his second place this weekend. A problem in race 1 pushed Brad Wheeler a little further back but nevertheless a well deserved 3rd overall. Chris Grindle seems to enjoy the Senior group finishing 4th, Danny Jones 5th and Ricky Britton 6th.

The big wheel group saw some close racing, Dylan Bainton took the chequered flag in all 3 races, Harry Sherman had 2 runner up spots and a 4th place. Adam Dyer finished 3rd overall and Jack hunt 4th. Sam Beavis and Andy Fitzgerald joined the top 6 finishers.

Josh Canton starts 2010 as he left 2009 with an excellent performance. Each small wheel race saw a different winner, Alex barter in race 1, Daniel Mundell in race 2 and Dan Wheeler in race 3. Billy King rode well finishing 4th overall.

The Yarley Hill posed an initial problem for some our new Junior riders. Ben Davis and Harry Williams failed to conquer the hill in practice but after some expert tuition from Corsham steward Ady Smith both lads had no problem in making it to the top in all 3 races. Harry Pritchard and Harry Kimber were consistent all day; Ryan Tanner rode well along with Jaydon Murphy and Thomas Watson. South West rider, Brandon Baker made the journey to Yarley and thoroughly enjoyed himself with 6th overall.
A slightly shorter version of the track was given to the auto group. William Wheeler and Louis Towsend battled hard, James Rowe and Declan Rodden had their own little race going on, Ethan Ruck and Jack Scally made it into the top 6 .

Our next meeting is on 28th Feb at the new venue of Frocester nr Stroud Glos. This is round one of the club champs and qualifiers. Riders must book in early if they want to get an entry for this event. Book in with Cheryl 0117 9573437, Nat 01454 313933 or Chris 07887512637

Coventry Juniors Mepal 31/01/10

With Mepal being a sandy track the frost had very little effect over its condition, making it an ideal track for the first round of the Coventry Junior Motocross winter series. Despite the cold weather it was an enjoyable event to kick start the year in the best possible way.
First out were the Autos and Reece Martin made light work of the tricky conditions, making it look easy as he took all three race wins. Following him through in second for all three races was Tyrone Brown, who did a sterling job. Jack Ryan rode well for third in races one and two but unfortunately didn’t make the final race.

Next were the Juniors and the battle was on between Jake Edey and Keenan Hird. Despite taking the lead on many occasions, Keenan was caught out by the sand and had to settle for second as Jake rode superbly for all three race wins. Ben Burridge had a fantastic first race in third, however Christopher Mills kicked it up a gear to take third in the final two races and overall.

Jack Seabourne quickly got his head round the track in the Small Wheel 85s to take the first race win with Keanan Armstrong fighting to keep up in second. Henry Siddiqui rode his best race of the day in race one to take a well deserved third. Daniel Lanfear picked up the pace for races two and three to take victory in both, leaving Jack and Keanan fighting over second. In race two Jack took this place, however Keanan finally got the better of him in race three. Overall it was Jack who took the win, with Keanan in second and Daniel third.
The Big Wheel 85s was a lot less decisive. Jack Gardner took the first race win, however was unable to continue the days racing. Second place for race one was taken by Matt Harrison who rode and excellent race ahead of Brad Freeman in third. Race two saw Jack Eldridge fly into the lead to take the race win ahead of McCauley Madden who stormed round in second, with Brad again rounding up the top three. Brad finally took the win in race three, which left him on joint points with Jack in second. On count back Jack took the overall win. Matt finished his day well in third place, putting him on joint points with McCauley. The overall third went to Matt.
Matt Burrows impressed in the Seniors race as he took all three race wins, fighting hard to hold off David Sweet in second place. Shaun Springer had a strong first race to take third, however Luke Houghton didn’t hold back to take third in races two and three, granting him third overall.

Jack Taylor and Ricky Lethaby were in a race of their own at the front of the AMX group. Ricky took the upper hand in race one but Jack wouldn’t let off as he took the win for races two and three. Scott Taylor polished off the top three for a brilliant first race. However he was pushed out of the top three by Scott Hambridge who took third for the final two races.

There seemed to be no answer to Brad O’Leary who stormed ahead of the Open group for all three race wins. This left three riders to fight over second; Lee Whitney, Mitchell Bates and Scott Bates. In race one Lee scored his best result in second ahead of Mitchell in second. Race two and Mitchell pushed harder to take second place, this time with Scott in third. Scott continued to improve throughout the day and finally took second place in race three ahead of Lee who was back on track in third. Overall Scott took second position with Lee and Mitchell on joint points. With his third place in race three the final top three spot went to Lee.

All the best to Jack Weaver and Kieran Ryan, we hope to see you both back out on the track soon. A big thank you to the organizers for making this a successful and positive way to start the year, looking forward to seeing what’s to come for the rest of the season.

RINGWOOD MOTOCROSS CLUB - ROGERSHILL RACEWAY, BERE REGIS

Cotswold 2/1/10

A well prepared, but frozen circuit greeted the riders who did arrive at Highley for the first meeting of 2010 after horrendous winter weather had ruined other planned events.Tenative practice and a small alteration then gave way to a good days racing enjoyed by all.

In the Auto class and fresh from a night at the supercross Dec Roden showed everyone else the way round with three clear wins. A close battle behind Roden included Dominic Lancett, Harrison Arnold and William Wheeler. Kyran Billings and Logan Bevington both giving their all in the conditions to make up the top six.

Rejuvenated after the winter break Harry Linton blasted away to three clear wins leaving Brooklyn Evans and Alex Lancett to do battle along with an improved Morgan McConnell.Fenton Bourne and Bradley Priest completed the top six.

A good combined line up of Small and Bigwheels made good racing.Rob Yates continued his winning ways, taking the flag in all races. The happy face on Dan Craig taking the big wheels makes standing with the flags all day in the cold worthwhile. Also great to see Daffyd Williams take a win in the Big Wheels. Ryan Deacon took second overall in the Small Wheels with Luke craig in third.

The Seniors this year have been split into 125cc and 250cc although racing together.Jack Timms on his 125 who claimed the day .Unfortunately Alex Davies's KTM 250 had the gremlins in it somewhere but battles with Adam Morris on his fuel injected Honda 250 made good racing. Luke Morgan 250 took a win in race three and great to see Grant Smith flying on his 125 Yam Charlie Sutton's new steed seems to suit hom again going well on his first time out. Some great holeshots by some riders but not enough care on the first bend spoilt some races I'm sure roll on next week.

Now we have a right combination of machines and talent in the Adult group which this week consisted of AMX and AMX Open Vets and Vets Open which gives the top AMX riders more manouvres aroung the slower competitors. Rhys Faulkner (open )debuted a very tidy Samsung Yamaha which goes as well as it looks and two wins on it can't be bad Ryan Bawn(open) took the advantage of Rhys's mistake on turn one to take the third race win, Gary Gittings proved there's life in the old man yet! to complete in the top three open class. Dale Evans now AMX took three good wins and good to see Travis Richings take a good second spot with Dan Wardle in third. The Vets was a family affair. Brothers Lancett came ,rode and conquered but it's still early days for the Vets. Rich Arnold had a win on his 250 stroker and always cheerfull Andy Barter enjoyed doing his thing for second place.

ROUND 1 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES AND BSMA QUALIFIER 7/2/10

THE rolling Dorset hillside circuit of Rogershill Raceway, Bere Regis was the fantastic setting for round one of the Ringwood Schoolboy Motocross Club's 2010 club championship series and and first of a six round BSMA qualifying series held on a circuit in perfect conditions.

The weather was extremely kind to the Ringwood club after weeks of consistent rain and the scheduled forecast of overcast but dry conditions was all the committee and the 182 competitors could ask for. The very encouraging large turnout for early February all made a welcome appearance and treated the large crowd of spectators to some breathtaking action.

The Best of British Auto Championship got proceedings underway for race one, and as usual the high standard and large entry served up some more classic 50cc Auto action at its very best. Again top names dominated the days racing and with Welsh warrior Ryan Rowlands on the members list all eyes were on the pocket rocket who took the chequers in race one and two. Daniel Breen just got better as the day progressed claiming a good third in the opener, second in race two and relieved Rowlands of a maximum in the final. Ryan Mundell up from the West Country rode three excellent races to snatch the final podium place whilst little Alfie Rickwood went home happy winning the best effort trophy.

Almost a full grid of Senior riders charged out of the traps and up the hill into the first turn all challenging for their lines on the sticky surface. Sam Harvey made race one look easy taking victory over the line and again race two looked to be his until a spot of over indulgence catapulted Sam over the bike, this left the door open for Jordan Broadway to claim the winners mantle for races two and three and claiming overall victory on the day to start the season as leader in this class. Visitor Ben Butler rode three consistent races to snatch second on the podium followed in overall third by the younger of the Broadway brothers Josh in third.

A good line-up of AMX open blasted away from the gates and it soon became apparent that newly upgraded Jake Shipton was the one to watch in the quickest of the Adult classes. Jake rode three barnstorming races of his own rarely challenged and in the process took the first maximum of the day. Phil Lewis as usual was making clean starts and and settled for runners-up behind Shipton in the opener, this was followed by a third and a fifth for overall second whilst Lewis Palmer rode a terrific set of motos for overall third.

Although there was a full line-up for the VMX Open races no one had an answer to stop Paul Williams from dominating this class taking the second maximum score from the weekend, Paul swept everyone aside winning overall from the consistent Simon Smart claiming forth and a couple of seconds to snatch the runners-up from Lee Welch who rode three cracking races.

James Harrison again dominated proceedings in the Big Wheel 85 encounters winning the race to the chequered flag in all three races to claim the overall and the final maximum of the day. A gaggle of riders tried in vain the match Harrison's speed all swapping and changing places behind. Ayrton Fiorenzio came out on top riding consisently to take overall second whilst Karl Noble was on fire in overall third.

Joe Jefferies was back to his best after a long time out of racing with an injury winning two of his three races which included the opener in the Small Wheel 85 group. Michael Burfield rode a terrific race in the final to the winners flag relegating Jefferies into second whilst Jordan English was always in the thick of things taking a brilliant overall third.

The Junior 65cc races were again hard fought affairs and the near full gate in this class ensured another hard battle ahead. Harry Pritchard rode out of his skin to win race one and three, Taylor Hammal battled hard winning the second but Pritchard took the overall victory with Hammal relegated into overall second. Harry Kimber continued his excellent form winning the battle for the final step onto the podium in third.

The Ringwood Club would like to send a huge thank you to Danny and his team for such an excellent circuit at Rogershill also to the Medics, Marshals and the hard working lapscorers and points ladies.
