East Anglia BSMA Golden Tyre Winter Series Rd 2 11 -12-11 - Report

The winter series is now well under way and the second round was even better than the first. The paddock at Mepal was filled to busting and the track  was prepared perfectly following a full practice day on Saturday

The weather was much kinder to us this time with the mist of the first round gone the day was dry if somewhat cloudy but this is a winter series. The light started to fail towards the end of the day which caused some concern but all the races were completed as scheduled.

The next round is on the 15th of January and contrary to what you may have heard will be at Mepal as advertised. The light should be a little better by then, so things will improve from now on so long as it does not snow.

The racing started as usual with the Auto group on a shortened track and was a closely contested event that could have gone any way. Bobby Bruce came out on top, with Jack Grayshon close behind and Buster Hart in third, which was surprising as Buster was the clear winner at the first round. It will be interesting to see how this pans out at the next round.

The Junior class was dominated by Jack Scott, with three outright wins from Lewis Fielder in second and James Hanscompt in third.

A similar scenario in the Small Wheel 85 group. Drew Warren, who regularly rides with the East Anglia Club took the outright win from George Gregg- Pettit with Albie Wilkie in third.

Sid Evans had three very good wins in the Big Wheel 85’s to take the top spot from Jamie Carpenter with Lewis Houghton in third.

Liam Knight had the overall win in the Senior Group in a closely fought competition with Tom Pallett and Rob Davison. Tom took the second place from Rob who came in a very close third.

The AMX group was won by Shaun Springer from Rob Nicholl with Jack Cox in third but the top three places were separated by only three points.

In the AMX Open Group, Luke Benstead had the Day with three straight wins. Steve Bixby another long term East Anglia rider, took the second place overall from Arron Jenner from Kent, who dominated the GT Cup series in the summer.

We have all been very pleased with the popularity of this series, It’s the first time that the BSMA has run a winter series as a National Event and we hope this will be a permanent feature in the calendar.
